In the Begining
Barry’s celebrated life of servitude, should never be forgotten. Having rescued over 40 people during his lifetime, he has been immortalised as a the most courageous, wonderful dog of all time. His tales and antics have fuelled the imagination of many famous writers over the years including Walt Disney who made a film about Barry in 1977

A Tragic End
Barry’s life was tragically cut short during a rescue of one of Napoleons soldiers. Barry was waking the unconscious soldier by licking his face, but the soldier mistook Barry for a Wolf and sadly killed him in the panic of the moment.

Barry du Grand Saint Bernard
After his death, a taxidermist preserved Barry’s body to serve as a reminder of his service and sacrifice, and to celebrate his life for generations to come. He currently is on display at the Natural History Museum in Bern. There was also a foundation created in his honour called Barry du Grand Saint Bernard based in the village of Martigny, that breed’s working St Bernards….. every generation the best dog is given the honour of being named Barry.
